đ The Paradox of Experience in Tech đEver felt trapped in the cycle of hiring tech talent based solely on years of experience? Here's a reality check:đ A client once sought a Salesforce Program Manager with extensive experience. They hired someone boasting 15+ years in the role. The result? The project lagged a year behind and skyrocketed over budget. The manager's next career move? Another role, now with "17 years of experience."đ Contrastingly, I've seen project managers with diverse skill setsâmaybe not decades in one nicheâbut everything they touch seems to thrive.đĄ The takeaway? Hiring for sheer experience often gets you just that: years counted. But if you prioritize talent, passion, and adaptability, you're likely to strike gold. How do you approach tech hiring? Let's discuss and learn!#TechTalent #HiringWisdom #BeyondExperience

I have applied to 600 jobs since January 2024. I have imagined my next opportunity as a Scrum Master, Change Manager, Business Analyst, or Workday Specialist. I have interviewed at Sierra Nevada Corporation, Lockheed Martin, Molson Coors, BAE Systems, SSR Mining, Northwestern Mutual, DISH Network, Gates Corporation, Comcast, Fresenius Medical Care, RTD, and Netflix. Over the last few months, I have:⢠worked with a career coach to update my LinkedIn Profile, Resume, Cover Letter, and Interview responses/stories⢠reached out to former coworkers to share advice, worries, and encouragement⢠wrote recommendations for coworkers impacted by the same layoff⢠attended networking events at Boulder Start Up Week, Mile High Agile, and Women&TECH Meetup⢠signed up with usemassive.com to automatically apply to jobs that fit my criteria⢠connected with several recruiters who have seemed genuinely interested in my placement⢠deleted hundreds of rejection emails clogging up my inbox⢠gotten 0 offersNo matter how hard I try, I haven't found what I am looking for:⢠remote (preferred) or hybrid in Denver, CO area⢠collaborate on creative projects with others ⢠connect with a company's mission and legacy⢠where I can solve a problem and make a better user experience⢠able to continue to learn and grow as an Agile Practitioner, Project Manager, or Workday Expert⢠Space Industry would be exciting! However, I am open to any industryTruthfully, this has been an exhausting process and experience, but I am continuing to put in the work to find the right fit, to better myself and my skills, and to find time to enjoy this break. I got a new tattoo. My poetry and artwork were featured in RISE Art Show benefiting The Blue Bench. I took my family on a road trip to Indiana to view the Total Solar Eclipse at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I took my family on a road trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks, where we saw 5 Grizzly Bears! I have spent every opportunity to volunteer at the Denver Botanic Gardens... planting, weeding, spreading mulch, and just getting my hands dirty. This time in my life is stressful, but I feel much lighter now that I approach every opportunity as a world to explore. There is so much more to see. Thanks for reading and reposting! Keep your fingers crossed for me!

How does Domain Knowledge play a crucial role in the PM Hiring Process? In the 41st episode of Product Management Interview Experience (video link in the first comment), Sunit A., a Senior Product Manager at #Microsoft, shares his interview experience and provides valuable insights. Sunit discusses his transition from a consulting role to a product role and emphasizes the importance of domain expertise in PM hiring. Over the years, Sunit developed expertise in the Fintech domain (taxation) and worked with products like #NetSuite which was very valuable in cracking the interview process for Microsoft Dynamic 365. We also discussed the details of his #interview process at Microsoft, which consisted of four rounds. The first round focused on his core #finance knowledge and experience, while the second round delved into his past deliverables and team dynamics. The third round primarily consisted of behavioral questions, and the fourth round focused on metrics and measuring success. Let me know in the comment section, what are your thoughts on shifting industry trends where the focus is given to domain knowledge for the PM hiring. If you found this video valuable don't forget to share it with your peers.#fintech #productmanagement #producthiring #microsofthiring #microsoftinterviews #productinteviews #microsoft #interviewquestions #interview

Applying for a new role? Donât fixate on the job title, rather focus on what the responsibilities and requirements are. âď¸Think about it this way: being a âProject Managerâ at Google involves different tasks than a similar position at Microsoft. Job hunting might be a challenge, but honing in on the details in the job description will guide you toward a role that perfectly matches your skills and experience. đď¸While job titles provide a launching pad, itâs the job description that deserves your focused attention.#team #interview #worklife #careergoals #jobs #work #employment #careers #recruitment #hiring #jobsearch #jobopportunity #careertips #recruiting

Applying for APM Positions? Donât Forget These Tips! When applying for APM roles, especially in tech companies like Google, Meta or Salesforce, itâs important to strategically showcase your experience and skills. Here are some key things I took care of when applying:1. Highlighting PM-Like Responsibilities: Even if you werenât officially in a PM role, emphasize experiences where you acted as one. For example, as a developer, I led a team of three, ensuring our solutions aligned with customer needs. This demonstrated my ability to manage projects and lead teams effectively, both key skills for an APM role.2. Leveraging Your Technical Background: I made it clear how my technical background could be an asset in understanding the needs of developers and bridging the gap between technical and management teams. This angle often sets candidates apart, as it shows you can speak both the technical and business languages.3. Showcasing Certifications: Coming from a tech background, I highlighted certifications in management and communication skills to strengthen my case for a management role. These credentials further demonstrated my readiness to tackle the challenges of an APM role.4. Adding a Personal Touch: I strongly believe in the power of a well-crafted cover letter or a personalized note to the hiring manager. I never skip on that question. Itâs a way to elaborate on your experiences and strengths that might not fit on your resume. Plus, it gives you the chance to make a more personal connection with the hiring team. These strategies helped me stand out in the competitive APM job market, and land interviews. I hope they can do the same for you. Stay tuned for my upcoming post on cover letter tipsâthereâs so much more to share!#APM #ProductManagement #Resume #Google #Meta

Candidate Experience:My view is that no one can be successful alone. Without my team I'm just a strategist with no execution - so I'm lucky to have a fantastic team! When it comes to hiring I know that the best talent, like the best companies, has a lot of choice and to stay competitive you need the best. That's why hiring needs to be a two-way street. The candidate needs to be the right fit and the company needs to be the right fit. In many cases the hiring process is the first real experience someone has of your organisation and my experience is that so many leaders overlook the importance of that. The questions you should ask yourself are: ¡How do you want your company, your team and yourself to come across to a candidate?¡Are you setting them up for success?¡Are you building the foundation for a strong working relationship?Or,¡Are you trying too hard?¡Are you just trying to trip people up?I want every candidate I interview to walk away with an insight into who I am as a leader and what I represent. A true experience of what it might be like to work at ServiceNow in the ESA Team and under my leadership. And it seems OisĂn Ă MĂr you were right, sometimes I do smile! đ
